What we liked
- Genuinely plug-and-play — connect, scan QR code, done in under 10 minutes
- One-time cost compared with £8–10/month cloud storage subscriptions
- Photo library auto-backup from iPhone and Android with AI-based search and people grouping
- Up to eight separate users, each with private storage
- Two-year warranty plus the 4TB Synology HAT3300 HDD included
02
What we didn't
- Single drive bay with no RAID or SHR redundancy — a drive failure means data loss unless you also back up elsewhere
- Locked to BeeFiles and BeePhotos — no DSM, no Docker, no third-party packages, no Plex
- Cannot mix with existing Synology DiskStations — separate ecosystem from DSM
- Drive is not officially user-replaceable, so end-of-life equals replace-the-unit
- Modest hardware (Realtek RTD1619B, 1GB RAM) caps how much it can grow with you
