Editorial Policy

How we research, write, source, and review the content on this site.

Easy-Going Nerd is an editorial resource on home automation, smart home gear, and the everyday use of AI tools. Our credibility is the only reason readers visit, link to, or trust the recommendations here. This policy documents how the content is made.

Independence

Easy-Going Nerd is independently operated. We do not accept payment in exchange for favourable coverage, do not allow vendors to review or alter editorial content before publication, and do not adjust rankings based on commission rates. Affiliate relationships are disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page; any vendor-supplied review units are disclosed in the body of the relevant review.

Sourcing

Guides and reviews on this site are research-led. We cite primary sources where possible — manufacturer specification sheets, official documentation (Home Assistant, Matter / Thread Group, the major AI vendors), regulatory filings, peer-reviewed studies where they exist, third-party teardowns, and on-the-record manufacturer statements. Where a claim has no supporting source, we say so plainly rather than asserting it as fact.

We do not quote or paraphrase content from competing home-automation or AI review sites without attribution, and we do not republish customer reviews from Amazon, Reddit, or other UGC sources as our own.

Accuracy and corrections

Every published article is reviewed by a human editor for factual accuracy before publication. Prices, subscription costs, software features, and device specifications change frequently in this niche; we date every review and refresh material changes on a rolling basis. If you spot a factual error, please flag it — we will correct it, date the correction, and note what was changed.

What we will not publish

  • Fabricated first-person experience ("we ran this hub for six months") that did not happen.
  • Fabricated reader testimonials or quotes from people who do not exist.
  • Invented credentials, certifications, or team members.
  • Statistics without a citable source.
  • Claims about competing products or platforms that we cannot back up.

AI use

AI assists with research synthesis, drafting, and editing. A human editor reviews every published piece. See the AI use disclosure page for the detailed policy.
